Valentine Cravings

We need to be honest.  Valentines Day is one of the most commercialized holidays in the US.  With all of the chocolate boxes, roses, and cards, this holiday has a way of wrapping us all up in a swirl of loving emotions.  I dare say there is absolutely nothing wrong with embracing any holiday celebrating love for one another.  With all the love flowing  freely, why not decorate your home in a simple way that celebrates Saint Valentine?

Randy Hall found these images of a simple way to pay homage to Valentines Day.  Tie an antique heart pendant to a satin ribbon and adorn your collections.  You can be creative in finding odds and ends around your home or even go to your local thrift store to find buttons, broaches, pendants, and the like to add a little personality to your normal decor.

Owls have been the rage over the past couple of years, and why not imagine them as love birds?  Here is an up close view of  a precious ribbon and heart detail.  You can even make a variety of ribbon lengths with your charms and hang them from your chandeliers, window rods, cabinet knobs, as well as door knobs to make a fun Valentine statement.

We all remember making paper hearts out of construction paper in elementary school, and this is a casual update to our old time traditions.  Punched card stock in an antiqued red will add a vintage charm to your mantel.  The vibrant reds and pinks we usually associate with Valentines Day can become sophisticated with a simple adjustment in color.  A simple red twine knot attaches each heart for some interest and texture.

As you prepare for Valentines Day, be creative and decorate your house in an unexpected way.  Take a weekend to craft and make some decorations you can use every year.  Not only will this activity be a stress reducer, but a fun way to involve your friends and family in decorating your own home and even their homes.  Spread the love...
